There hasn't been a lot of posts in this community for awhile, and I apologize on behalf of the mods for that. But, to get things going a bit again, let's have a little discussion.

What movies are you most looking forward to this year from Disney?

It could either be ones they're releasing to theaters (Monsters University, Frozen or even Iron Man 3) or it could be ones they're re-releasing to blu-ray (Peter Pan, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Little Mermaid and so much more!)

Leave your thoughts!

And as a side note, don't be afraid to post anything! We are always open for discussion!

90 Years!

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Laughing Place, this year the Walt Disney Company will celebrate its 90th anniversary!

Now, the actual date isn't until October 16th, but I'd like to take a moment to ask for pitches about what we should do to celebrate this achievement. A gift exchange? A huge spam party? Anything goes, and we want to hear all of your ideas so we can make this milestone a very grand occasion!

 Get to discussing! :D

The Academy Awards nominations were announced last night, and while some choices may have been somewhat obvious (see Daniel Day-Lewis, and Anne Hathaway), there were a couple of surprises.

Not least in the Best Animated Feature Film where Disney sees three nominations, for Brave, Frankenweenie, and Wreck-It Ralph!

The category is filled out by nominations for Laika's ParaNorman and Aardman's The Pirates! Band of Misfits.

So, and I realise that this may be a tricky question, which would you like to see win?

Also, any reactions to nominations for any other categories?

I have a love-hate relationship with awards season and with the Best Animated Feature category in general, but I'll save that for my own blog.

My opinion )

So, Frankenweenie is out on blu-ray/DVD today.

So, HECK YISS, FRANKENWEENIE SPAM POST THIIING.

Who loved this? Who's buying? Who preferred the original? Who's completely amused that Tim Burton got fired for the original back in the '80s and then came back and remade it?

I was wondering which movie hit you the hardest emotionally out of the Disney films?

For me it was the Fox and the Hound which is one of the few films to ever make me cry. As a kid I could easily cope with Braveheart but then this film came on and bang, a hot mess~

I am utterly obsessed with music, and one thing that has always fascinated me about the Disney films that I grew up with is how they managed to combine music, character, story-telling etc. seamlessly.

So, as Keeley kind of stole my first question, we'll go with a seasonal auxiliary.

Which Disney songs do you most associate with Christmas? It doesn't have to be a 'Christmas' song, just something that reminds you of Christmas, or whatever holiday you might celebrate.

Bonus question; What is your favourite non-Disney Christmas song?

Ten years ago today, on November 27th, 2002, Treasure Planet was released to U.S. theaters, making it the 43rd entry into the Disney Animated Canon. Directed by Ron Clemens and John Musker, this movie was put off by Disney for a long time, as they wanted Musker and Clemens to direct Hercules. They agreed, but only if they got to do Treasure Planet next. Though this film ended up being a big financial failure for Disney (according to Box Office Mojo, it didn't even make its budget back in theaters), it has gained a firm cult following over the past decade.

In celebration of this milestone, Disney has released a 10th Anniversary Blu-Ray edition of the movie.

So! What are your thoughts about this movie? Is it one of your favorites? Least favorites? What do you like/hate about it? Do you have it on DVD, or will you be purchasing it on Blu-Ray? Anything Treasure Planet related, goes!

On November 25th, 1992, Aladdin was released in theaters, twenty years ago to this day. Since then the movie has grown to become one of the most beloved Disney movies of all time for many reasons, including memorable songs, stunning animation, and Robin Williams as the hilarious Genie. It was the number one highest grossing movie of 1992 and was nominated for five Oscars, of which it won two.

So! Tell us in the comments what you think about Aladdin and the fact that the movie itself is now twenty years old. Have you watched it recently? Do you have any fond memories associated with this film? Got any Aladdin merchandise lying around? Share it all here!

Today my dad pretty much confirmed that he's willing to help me make my way back to Disneyland California next year, and even though it's months away, I'm getting pretty excited.

So, have you visited one, or more of the Disney Parks? Which is your favourite? If you haven't been to any, which would you like to go to most?

Which Disney films have you seen at the cinema?

For me, it's quite a rarity - the first ever Disney film I saw in the pictures was A Bug's Life (also the first Pixar movie); I didn't see another one until Princess and the Frog. Both times, though, I found it a real treat, a good Disney movie takes you in anyway when you're at home but there's something quite special about those cinema walls! I was just enthralled by Bug's Life and when it came to the Princess and the Frog ... wow. Hands down best cinema visit ever. Not only was I on a date but I was actually dancing about in my chair by the time Dig A Little Deeper came on!

The only other Pixar movie I'd seen was Brave, and that just completely grabbed me as well. I'd forgotten that Pixar usually shows a short film beforehand as well, which was a beautiful little surprise.

I'm curious about you guys. What was it like for you, to see a movie on the big screen? Are there any that you wish you'd caught?

Hope you're all enjoying your Thanksgiving!

Let's face it - as fans of something, we probably have at least one thing related to the fandom we belong to.

And you know what? We like to show them to the other members of the fandom.

So, if you'd like, post your Disney collection! It could be the movies, random merch - anything! You can either do it in the comments or in your own post.

At any rate, enjoy your Saturday/weekend!

It's November 13, so Brave is out on Blu-Ray/DVD! Well, at least in the states.

So, tell me your thoughts/opinions on the movie! Are you guys planning on getting this one? If you're passing on it, is there a reason why?

If you have any other Brave feels that you wanna share, go ahead and share them in the comments!

Happy Tuesday, everybody! (:

EDIT: There is a 30% off sale today on select Brave items at the Disney Store (which extends to the website for people like me who don't have a Disney Store close by).  If you take advantage of this deal, you'll have to tell me what you bought in the comments!  Thanks to [personal profile] abarero for the head's up :D

On another note, I made the tags more comprehensive. Because reasons.

I thought this might be fun to do every so often, because there are TONS of communities out there, so, does anyone have any community recommendations? It can be either LJ or DW.

Or, for the tumblr users, any cool Disney blogs worth following?

Any rec left in the comments I'll edit to add in this post so that EVERYONE can see it (:

Anyways you guys have a nice Saturday (:

Coming on November 18th, 2012, two years after the November 2010 release of the first Epic Mickey for the Nintendo Wii, Epic Mickey 2 promises just as much delightfully dark adventure as the first game, this time getting Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 owners in on the fun as well, along with the expected Wii version. Epic Mickey took place in the "Wasteland", a retirement-home-gone-wrong for forgotten Disney creations styled after the famous "real-life" Magic Kingdom theme parks (most notably Disneyland) all over the world, and gamers will find themselves trying to save Wasteland again through whatever means they see fit, good or bad.

From IGN.com:

"In Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, gamers will play as Mickey Mouse and for the first time ever, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit -- Walt Disney's first cartoon star -- in an all-new adventure of creativity and discovery. The game returns Mickey Mouse and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to Wasteland, an alternate world filled with 80 years of forgotten Disney characters and theme park attractions. Now, Mickey and Oswald must join forces as true partners -- Mickey with his magical paint brush that wields paint and thinner, and Oswald with his powerful remote control that allows him to command electricity. Unleash the power of creativity in an epic battle to save this magical world of Wasteland and change it forever in this heroic adventure!"

Be warned, disasters in Wasteland may have changed it from the place we knew in the first game, not to mention completely new areas to explore such as Frontierland, which you may recognize from Disneyland. In addition, Epic Mickey 2 is set to be a musical, and the songs will change based on Mickey and Oswald's behavior. And make sure to listen in closely, as Amazon.com's description of the game's features tells us that Oswald, who has been a non-speaking character to this day, will be given a proper voice!

Are you excited for Epic Mickey 2? :D
