I forgot yesterday was Thursday. Forgive me, kind people of this community. Anyways, Thursday's topic is on a Friday this week.

Anyways...

Which sequel is your favorite? It could be a theatrical one, a Muppets one, a direct-to-video one, you decide! And for the sake of argument, which sequel do you absolutely LOATHE?

My favorite is Aladdin and the King of Thieves. I find it just as funny as the first one, though the animation is definitely less than stellar. The movie just makes me super happy. The Aladdin series in general does.

And, for the most part, I like/tolerate the sequels. The older ones I grew up with, so the nostalgia connected with them makes it hard for me to hate them. The only one I take extreme amounts of issue with is Fox and the Hound II. It focuses less on Tod & Copper and more on new characters, characters that were highly unpleasant. It just wasn't good, yo.

What about you?

Mine is probably TLK 2, because it actually has good music for a sequel (definitely different-feeling than 1, but still songs I'm willing to listen to on their own). I might even prefer it a little, since the first TLK is the only movie I watched so many times that I made myself sick of it. (I know some of the plot stuff doesn't make sense, but sequels that weren't planned early enough in the original's creation rarely do. As its own movie, it stands fine for me.)

I don't remember why, because that would have involved more thinking about it/working at keeping it in my memory than I was willing to do, but I also hated the Fox and the Hound sequel. I think it seemed the most "sequel for the sake of sequel rather than sequel because this idea works as a sequel at all."
I haven't really poked the greater Lilo & Stitch franchise, but I know I'd resent anything that gave Lilo a love interest, because darn it, that screentime could be used to give David more character development. Also, she's five. :|;

Oh, great; then I get to be reacquainted with it if I want the blu-ray of the first movie. =_=; It makes sense from the seller perspective to me (I can't imagine 10+-year-old direct-to-video sequels would sell nearly as well as the original movies), but as a buyer, that is a very annoying practice. I'd be happy with my VHS tapes or dvds of the sequels; I don't need to pay more to upgrade those to blu-ray!

Wow, I didn't know Lilo and Stitch had gotten that big. I know a TV show existed at some point, and... that's about it.

Man, I feel you on the Fox in the Hound 2. I never saw it in its entirety, but just the summaries I read and the glimpses I caught convinced me I probably didn't want to. Of course, I never took much to Fox in the Hound as it was, so that could be it.

Otherwise, I think my least favorite sequel is the third Aladdin sequel - not King of Thieves, that was good, but one that came after it. And I think that's in part because the animation was so bad. The artwork in the original movie was just so stunning. Compared to it, the third movie hardly seemed like the same series.

As for my favorite sequel, Toy Story 3! 2 was pretty good, and it set the stage nicely, but I think 3 was definitely a stronger film overall, that better carried the original ideas of the first film. I can be pretty friendly towards sequels as well. A lot of the Pixar ones coming out, I'm really excited for.

Also, all three Lilo and Stitch sequels. I am just amazed that they managed to just so consistently keep to the intent and style of the original films through so many. My love only grew with each one~.

Really? Huh. I wonder how that happened. I mean, I didn't mind the animated series much - it was cute, it wasn't awful, it was good background noise. For some reason, though, I could have sworn King of Thieves came first.

*~The More You know!~* I especially wonder what they did to entice Williams back. I know he was ticked after the initial movie because they disregarded his wishes about the film advertising, so I'd understand if he didn't want to come back.

Two is good. Three probably wouldn't even have been as good without two. But, three is better. I've found that's often the case with trilogies, on the whole. I feel the same way about LotR, or Johannes Cabal.

My favorite sequel is probably Mulan II. I did not love the music, but I loved getting to see more of Shang and Mulan, and the three princesses that were introduced. The animation was kind of "eh" but not as bad as some of the sequels have been.

Oh, I also liked Cinderella III because I thought it gave us a fun way of exploring the characters' personalities in an AU kind of way. I felt like everyone was still in character with the original movie, too, which was great.

The Aladdin sequels were my childhood favorites, I loved the way they tied into the TV show XD

My least favorite sequel is definitely Lady and the Tramp II. Everything about that movie just made me scream. I also don't like either of the Little Mermaid sequels.

There's probably more that I'm not thinking of... lol

I most of the sequels I've seen, though most are sort of blah, but for favourites I'm between Lady and the Tramp II, The Little Mermaid II, and I have a weird softspot for Cinderella II, despite it's blahness in a lot of ways.

The one sequel I positively loathe, is Hunchback of Notre Dame II. It completely insults the integrity of the original, and the music. Oh god, the music is just so goddamn awful. I have so many feelings about that, but I just can't make sentences right now.

Yes. I totally agree on the Hunchback of Notre Dame II especially since they really hyped it up and I thought that time and effort were going to go into it.

Shut up. I said I couldn't make sentences.

It should have said "I like most..."

My favorite sequel is the Rescuers Down Under. It had the same feel and was as well written as the prequel.

I also really liked the Aladdin sequels.

The sequel I cannot stand is the Hunchback of Notre Dame one. What in the name of all that is merciful was that mess?

Personally, my favorites are probably Kronk's New Groove and Cinderella III. Both I feel really kept the spirit of the original and the animation quality was not compromised as badly as it is in most Disney sequels.

For Pixar, yeah- the Toy Story trilogy is amazing.

Least Favorite has to go to Pocahontas II. It's horrible, offensive and doesn't even remotely try to touch the heart of the original film. Plus- Disney movies are not going to be historically accurate and trying to "fix" that with a sequel was a horrid horrid idea.

The Lion King 2 is my favourite sequel. I love the music and the story wasn't bad either. I haven't seen many sequels though, I tend to avoid them, but the ones I have seen have been pretty bad.

I'm really not big on sequels and don't usually watch them, but I love Toy Stories 2 and 3 - they really worked for me, the second one especially. The new characters were likeable and well-rounded and could fit in well with the existing cast.

I also remember liking Aladdin and the King of Thieves as a kid as well. When I was younger I liked Lady and the Tramp II. Even now I don't think it's completely awful, but "bland" doesn't even begin to describe Scamp. I found the backstory rivalry between the main villain and Tramp to be a lot more interesting, and the story could have done without Angel completely. Come on, media, not everyone needs a love interest to be happy.

Speaking of which: I vow never to watch Hunchback's sequel fully. I really liked what they did in the end of the first movie - Quasi got what he wanted most with all his heart, which was acceptance from the city. Although he loved Esmeralda, it was a nice change for Disney to have her choose someone else - her choice was predictable, but Quasi still had to come to terms with it - and it ended perfectly. There are many movies that don't need a sequel, and Hunchback is definitely one of them.

Also, I wait with some trepidation for Monsters University. I'll probably watch it at the pictures out of sheer curiosity, and I know it's not good of me to judge before the movie's even come out, but the trailer just made me grimace on the inside. The fake website for the college Pixar have going on is excellent though, so I hope that the movie itself is a lot funnier. In time I'll be able to see for myself.
