Hi, all! I'm new to this community. Thought I'd drop by and promote a few icons I've recently edited. My VHS is munching on my Disney films like crazy tonight! First Cinderella, then The Lion King, and now Aladdin. Makes me happy :)

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Laughing Place, this year the Walt Disney Company will celebrate its 90th anniversary!

Now, the actual date isn't until October 16th, but I'd like to take a moment to ask for pitches about what we should do to celebrate this achievement. A gift exchange? A huge spam party? Anything goes, and we want to hear all of your ideas so we can make this milestone a very grand occasion!

 Get to discussing! :D

Of course I'd come back with Thursday's Topic on Valentine's Day.

So, fittingly, what is your favorite Disney couple?

It doesn't have to be a couple that belongs to the canon or anything. Like, if one of the live action couples from a Disney channel show (perhaps Phil and Keely? Maybe Lizzie and Gordo?) is your favorite, go ahead and pick them! And if you can't pick just one, NAME ALL YOUR FAVORITES!

Just have fun!

According to Stitch Kingdom, Walt Disney Pictures has uploaded its Oscar nominated short Paperman to Youtube for free, legal viewing.

The short, which played in theaters before Wreck-it Ralph, uses a unique blend of traditional hand-drawn animation and CGI to tell the story of office workers George and Meg's first meeting.

After Disney's purchase of LucasFilms and the announcement that the Star Wars franchise will continue on, news about the development of the next film was sparse for a while, but today marks a huge announcement about the movie's development!

J.J. Abrams (director of Star Trek), according to CinemaBlend, will reportedly be directing the next Star Wars film.

For more information, click here!

Sources say Abrams was reluctant at first, having stated he declined the offer from Lucas Films, but apparently he has since then reconsidered and accepted the director's role.

Are you excited? Do you trust the man who directed the eleventh Star Trek to make a good Star Wars film? How do you think Disney will handle the task of producing the next main storyline film for this huge franchise? Discuss!

thelaughingplace! Oh, how I have missed you!

Anyways, this weeks topic came a little late due to actually having to work on Thursday and then generally being too lazy to post something.

With the news that The Little Mermaid will no longer be re-released to theaters, I gotta ask: which Disney movie would you have liked to see re-released to theaters? Which Disney movies HAVE you seen in theaters? Which ones did you regret missing in theaters?

According to comicbookmovie, Disney XD's action/adventure show Tron: Uprising has been canceled. The show has had disappointing ratings for the network in the past. It will not be returning for a second season.

How does this make you feel? Disappointed? Sad? Was it truly surprising to hear this news after Motorcity's cancellation? Did you watch Uprising, and if so, what did you think?

Reuters has announced that The Little Mermaid will not be receiving a theatrical release this year due to disappointing 3D sales.

From the website:

The film was the last of four releases for which Disney announced plans to convert some of its animated films after "The Lion King" generated domestic ticket sales of $94 million in 2011. "Monsters, Inc, its most recent film converted to 3D, had domestic ticket sales of only $30.6 million, according to the site Box Office Mojo.

Disney began 3D conversion of the underwater animated film in November, animated studio chief John Lasseter, said in interviews in November. Conversion of existing films to 3D are considered generally inexpensive and are viewed by Disney as generating publicity to boost the DVD sales of older films.

Disney said will release a fifth "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie on July 10, 2015, the studio said in an email announcing its revised release schedule.

The company said it would release two of its Marvel big-budget films in 3D next year: "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "Guardians of the Galaxy." (Reporting By Ronald Grover. Editing by Andre Grenon)

What do you have to say about this, then? Are you unsurprised? Disappointed? How many 3D rereleases have you seen in theaters?

So far it's been good for Disney this awards season, and now Pixar joins in on the celebration because Brave has officially won the Golden Globe for Best Animated Picture of 2012! It was up against Wreck-it Ralph, ParaNorman, Rise of the Guardians, Hotel Transylvania, and Frankenweenie

Are you surprised? Happy? Disappointed? Did you expect Brave to win, or were you expecting Wreck-it Ralph or ParaNorman?

Do you think this gives us a good hint at who will win the coveted Oscar? Since Ralph won the Critic's Choice Award instead of this, do you think it's now completely up in the air? Discuss, my pretties, discuss! :D

On January 10th, 2013, Disney's 2012 video game comedy Wreck-it Ralph brought home the Critic's Choice Award for Best Animated Feature, beating out Brave, Frankenweenie, ParaNorman, Rise of the Guardians, and Madagascar 3 for the title.

Among other winners were Argo for Best Picture, Skyfall for Best Action Film (beating out The Avengers), and Daniel Day-Lewis for Best Actor in Lincoln

Are we happy, or are we happy? :D

The Academy Awards nominations were announced last night, and while some choices may have been somewhat obvious (see Daniel Day-Lewis, and Anne Hathaway), there were a couple of surprises.

Not least in the Best Animated Feature Film where Disney sees three nominations, for Brave, Frankenweenie, and Wreck-It Ralph!

The category is filled out by nominations for Laika's ParaNorman and Aardman's The Pirates! Band of Misfits.

So, and I realise that this may be a tricky question, which would you like to see win?

Also, any reactions to nominations for any other categories?

I have a love-hate relationship with awards season and with the Best Animated Feature category in general, but I'll save that for my own blog.

My opinion )

I am FAAAAAR too excited to wait until the morning to do Thursday's Topic.

Today's topic is inspired by Jay Leno, of all things.

Who is your favorite Disney animal OF ALL TIME? Live action counts too, if you're a fan of Maitika or something (and if you're a fan of Maitika: I'm sorry, we can't be friends. If you know who Maitika is, four for you!)

Characters who turn into an animal for the duration of their films can also count, I guess (that would mean Tiana, Naveen, Elinor, that one guy from Brother Bear...)

Second topic B'CAUSE I CAAAAN: What is your favorite Disney film that is mainly composed of an all-animal cast?

Exciting news, peeps! According to The New York Times, after the Broadway musical Mary Poppins closes on March 3rd, the Disney-owned New Amsterdam Theater will gear up to premiere Aladdin, which was originally staged in Seattle in 2006. Renovations to accommodate the play will most likely be finished in Spring 2014.

Who has seen a Disney musical live? If so, where? A theme park like Disneyland? On Broadway or in your city? Which one is your favorite?

So, Frankenweenie is out on blu-ray/DVD today.

So, HECK YISS, FRANKENWEENIE SPAM POST THIIING.

Who loved this? Who's buying? Who preferred the original? Who's completely amused that Tim Burton got fired for the original back in the '80s and then came back and remade it?

I was wondering which movie hit you the hardest emotionally out of the Disney films?

For me it was the Fox and the Hound which is one of the few films to ever make me cry. As a kid I could easily cope with Braveheart but then this film came on and bang, a hot mess~
